Vinay Bale / Field Notes
Office hours

Office hours for hard operating systems.

If you are wrestling with a messy operations problem, I am happy to help for a paid hour. Bring the actual knot: a marketplace issue, field execution problem, payments flow, retention question, planning cadence, compliance mess or team ritual that is no longer working.

For operators

Diagnose the system

Map where the problem sits: incentives, cadence, team design, data, compliance, payment flows or field execution.

For founders

Find the operating wedge

Turn a vague scale problem into a smaller set of decisions, tradeoffs and rituals you can run next week.

For teams

Pressure-test the plan

Bring a launch plan, ops review, marketplace problem or org design knot. We will make it sharper.

How it works

One clear problem. One useful hour.

This works best when you send a short note before the call: what is happening, what you have tried, what decision you need to make next, and what constraints are real.

I will not arrive with a generic playbook. The aim is to leave with a sharper map of the system, the two or three decisions that matter, and one next operating move you can actually run.

Good fit
  • Marketplace or supply operations that have become hard to reason about.
  • Field teams where cadence, ownership or incentives are unclear.
  • Founder problems where the issue is partly strategy and partly operating design.
  • Plans that look right in a document but feel fragile in the real world.

This is intentionally a side channel, not the main identity of the site. I take a small number of paid conversations because useful side income compounds the independent work I can do on Urvara. If the problem is better served by someone else, I will say that quickly.
